Samhain and the Goddess

The blood which runs in us is born of the blood of our Earthly Mother. Her blood… babbles in the brooks of the mountains; flows wide in the rivers of the plains; sleeps in the lakes; rages mightily in tempestuous seas.

These are words from a third century Aramaic manuscript that were translated by Edmond Bordeaux Szekely. The texts go on to say that the air we breathe is born of the breath of our Earthly Mother… the hardness of our bones is born of the rocks and of the stones, the tenderness of our flesh is born of the flesh of the fruits of our Earthly Mother.

In honor of Samhain and the darkening days when the Goddess bids we go within the Self, take a moment to reflect that, just as we are born of our physical mothers, we are also born of our Earthly Mother. Think how different our world
might be if honoring our Earthly Mother was considered a privilege and, indeed, an act of love as was originally intended.

Let’s look at the Feminine/Goddess/Divine Mother qualities. These qualities are, among others, creative, intuitive, and receptive.

The Feminine/Goddess/Divine Mother energy is creative. Honor the Goddess this Samhain by being creative
yourself. Think of some truly triumphant moments in your life. You were most likely flowing with abundant creativity. Creating and being creative is quite euphoric — because it is Goddess energy!

Intuition is another aspect of the Goddess, and Samhain is a wonderful time of year to be in touch with your intuitive side, and receptive to your intuitive powers. Think of the phrase, “It suddenly came to me…” From where? Feel how our language perfectly describes the receptive aspect of intuition. You don’t go out and get an idea; it comes to you. Feel the difference when trying to remember a dry textbook, which expends energy, and reading for pleasure. The words in the novel you read for pleasure create pictures, fully detailed characters and locations, and it is effortless; the pictures come to you. That is receptive energy — effortless. Perhaps that’s why intuition or psychic abilities are called a Gift. It is something you receive.

Honoring the Divine Mother, our Mother Earth, and the Feminine principles of creativity, intuition, and receptivity is an excellent way to bring the Goddess to your Samhain works and rites.

Wishing You Warm Hearths and a Blessed Samhain,

Sally

I really appreciated the multiple references to our Divine Mother’s aspects in
the lives of everyone in this blog. This ‘receptive’, ‘intuitive’ and
‘creative’ theme has been a topic of major discussion between my family and
friends as of recent. It has inspired me to take up crafting jewelry with my
own mother, which in hand has brought us closer. Whilst I explain the
metaphysical properties of metals and gemstones, she opens up her mind (in the
natural empathic fashion of such a bonding) to my broader spectrum of
spirituality. It must be the spirit of Samhain, for I’ve even been busy
crafting/blessing/casting away making satchets and intended gem-stone jewelry
remedies for my closest friends. For instance, my best-friend of almost 20
years, a gifted medium (he certainly does not consider it a gift, although I
wish I had half his talent in that aspect), has been more emotional over his
recent visions than I’ve ever seen him in all our lives, and ever since I
crafted him a sodalite power bracelet blessed by Goddess under the moon in the
wealth of her fullness, and had him use a similarly blessed ‘pillow’ next his
bed at night, he hasn’t skipped a day without thanking me for helping to gentle
his psychic flow. Though we live accross the state from one-another, he now has
restful sleep and our empathic bond is stronger than ever; And I attribute this
to our mutual respect and love for the Divine Mother. I digress, I’m just so
exhuberent with creativity this time of year! Thank you Sally for your
    beautiful words of wisdom.

Sharon, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if
everyone studied the Old Ways and loved their own religious practices while
    being tolerant of others’?
    Brightest blessings to you!

I would like to commend you on your article. Well written. Many people are
unaware that even some if not all Jewish Sects believe God/Ywhw has a feminine
aspect according to ancient Kabbahlistic Teachings known as Shekinah. I am not
of any Jewish Faith yet, I have friends whom are. I learned through them as
well as speaking with a friend’s uncle who was a Rabbi. I was allowed exposure
to all good, positive spiritual paths as well as studied world religions during
college. I raised our 3 kids whom are now young adults with the same
priviledges. They respect others and their choices as people should. What
spiritual path is right for one soul may not be for another. They will choose
which path is right for their souls evolution. I look forward to receiving your
    newsletters. Blessed Be.
